Getting Traffic to Your Squidoo Lens Part 1
The most important thing is to get visitors to your lens, today I will talk a bit about getting traffic using social bookmarking.
So what exactly is social bookmarking?
Social bookmarking is a way for Internet users to store, organize, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, but depending on the service’s features, may be saved privately, shared only with specific people or group(s), shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, via a search engine, or even randomly.
The beauty is that not only do you get a link back to your lens, you also get your lens out to a larger group of people.
I don’t know how many social bookmarking websites there is, 1000s for sure - for a start here’s what I use:
Stumble! in a nutshell you download their toolbar, it gives you the chance to surf through thousands of excellent pages that have been submitted. Submit is what you should do with your lens; submit it to Stumble! and you will get known.
By the way my username at Stumble! is surfsusan, feel free to add me as your friend and I will return the favour ![]()
On your Squidoo lens in the “Save and Share” you will find an icon for Stumble It! easy click and add to your “I like it”.
Digg is a very active website and they have a staff that does check all the submissions, be careful only submit your best lenses. You will get banned if you submitduplicated content, it *must* be original. My username again is surfsusan - fell free to add my as your friend and I will return the favour ![]()
On your lens in the “Save and Share” you will find an icon for digg this; again easy click and digg.
RSS feeder, if you don’t already use a RSS feeder, get one immediately. You may already have one as a part of your Google account - Google reader. Google loves RSS readers, you may get indexed by Google within 24 hours this way.
Yahoo! also has a popular reader as a part of my.yahoo.com
The one I use is Bloglines.com (but must add that google has added some new interesting features to their reader, so I might start to use that only).
No I will not forget http://lensroll.com - for Squidoo lenses only -
These are the ones I always use. For a list of social bookmarking websites go to:
http://www.listible.com/list/social-bookmarking-sites 341 Resources with ratings, a good website to get ideas from.
Be warned though, some of these websites consider Squidoo lenses as spam.
For semi-automated submission to social bookmarking sites:
Last but certainly not least; you are not alone on this, if you want to join a community of people who see social bookmarking as a great way to do Internet markeing, then join TaggZilla. And join me there - Add me as a “connection” I am viking and in Ivan’s group.
This is all I will say about social bookmarking, feel free to ask questions if there is something you don’t understand or is unclear. Use the Comment feature or Contact
Next I will talk about article submission.
Rememer to have fun!
