A Squidoo it Yourself Way to Making Money Online
In these days of prices going up, and house values going down, we’re all looking to make a little extra money from somewhere. There are only so many hours in the day that you can work, so why not find something that will give you a residual income?
It sounds nice doesn’t it? Residual income - money coming in indefinitely for work you’ve already done. Well, not only does it sound nice, it’s entirely possible to do - people are doing it right at this very moment, and very soon you could be one of them!
One of the quickest and easiest ways to get started online is to sign up with one of the big Web 2.0 platforms, like Squidoo, and here’s a huge perk - it’s free! Web 2.0 sites are currently leading the way when it comes to getting yourself indexed by the top search engines, and the quicker and higher you rank, the faster you’ll get potential buyers coming to your page.
What you’ll want to have on your web page, which Squidoo calls a lens, are at least three short articles that relate back to whatever product you want to promote. The content is the key to your success. It doesn’t have to be prefect, but it should have some of the keywords that people will be searching for when they look for the kind of thing you’ll be promoting.
Also you’ll want to find keywords that aren’t too competitive. You’ve got a far better chance of ranking well for a longer keyword phrase with little competition than with a short key word phrase with a lot of competition. However, you’ll still want the keywords to be as relevant as possible to your articles or you’ll drive traffic there and they’ll leave again just as quickly.
Once you have your lens up and running, which shouldn’t take too long, you’ll want to link back to the product you’re promoting. The product may be something that you own yourself and sell from a dedicated website, or it might be an affiliate product.
If you don’t have a product of your own, don’t worry. You can link to an affiliate product without fear of repercussion by the Squidoo staff. What you should do is check out a site that offers downloadable products, like ClickBank, sign up for a free account, and then find a suitable product to promote.
Another thing worth noting is that you can make anything up to 75% commissions on products sold through ClickBank, so, for a little time and effort on research and setting up your free lens, you could be pulling in $30-$60 or more for each person going on to buy the product!
If you want to make some additional money, or just don’t have the time at the moment to search for a product to add and promote, you can always take the option of letting Squidoo place ads on your lens and you then take a cut of the money generated from them.
In the case of the Google AdSense advertisements, you won’t really have any say on what’s shown, other than by making your content as focused on one subject as possible, but you can have a say on other ads placed on your lens.
Squidoo offers you a number of commercial modules that you can drop into your lens. Those modules are usually specific to one company or another like the Amazon.com module, eBay module, Netflix module, etc. And you have flexibility as to what each of the modules will display for your readers.
You’ll also get paid if you act as a Squidoo affiliate and get people to join for free. Squidoo will take a percentage of any money that’s generated through AdSense or the modules. When it comes to AdSense, they’ll take 45%, give 5% to charity and the other 50% is distributed around the Squidoo members, which is great if nobody has clicked on any of your AdSense ads because you make money from other peoples’ AdSense ads.
The split is the same for the modules, but since you’ve put the work into providing the content that’s got the people there in the first place, you get to keep 50% of those sales. This is when the affiliate section kicks in, because this will be classed as a member making residual money from Squidoo, and once the people you refer start making money in that way, Squidoo rewards you for getting them to sign up.
So, whether you have a product or not, you can get yourself online for free and start making an income. Once you’ve got the taste for it, you’ll start building a Web 2.0 empire and marketing anything and everything to those people who don’t yet realise they need what you’re going to sell them!
